Michael Welch a.k.a.James Warren, or Sylvanus Sampson
Mike Welch is a 26 year veteran early American History high school teacher and former department chair who was honored to be the 2023 Frederick L. Graham Award recipient which is awarded to “a Massachusetts High School teacher who engages his or her students in the study of the American Revolution and inspires them to learn more about this founding moment.” Outside of the classroom, he volunteers his time as a Historical Interpreter at various sites: as Benjamin Nye of Sandwich in the 1670s, Plymouth’s James Warren, Esq. with Revolution 250 sponsored events, and participates in the Patriot’s Day Weekend events as a Private in HM 52nd Regt’s Light Infantry Company. Mike has learned historical tailoring and authentically recreates all parts of his clothing kit for various impressions. Mike additionally practices historical linguistics and has had some success in recreating late 17th century speech ways
